Grimsey partners with PUKA Up in 2019
Suicide means not only a tragic loss of life but also immense grief and a lack of understanding by the family, friends and community of the person who has died. In 2017, 3128 Australians died by suicide and for every person who took their own life it is estimated that at least 20 more attempted to. The link between suicide and mental health is obvious and with over 20% of Australians being affected by some form of mental illness the suicide rates seem unlikely to fall.
This year Grimsey Wealth are joining the fight to normalise the conversation around mental illness and suicide prevention. We have partnered with PUKA UP, a new social enterprise founded by former AFL legend, Wayne Schwass. Wayne is deeply passionate about creating environments for every person to have authentic and genuine conversations about mental health and emotional well-being.
Wayne’s drive to create opportunities for conversation about mental health and suicide prevention lead him to launch the annual PUKA UP ride. While presenting a physical challenge, the rides core aim is to deliver six community forums throughout Victoria. These forums enable rural communities to come and talk about the impact of mental health and suicide in their area. During the ten day, 2000km ride, the group will visit:
